I got injured on the job. I had to have surgery on my hand. I have finished my physical therapy. They said I have 50% use of my hand and it wont get any better. The hospital bill alone is over 11,000 dollars. How much compensation am I entitled to?
Answer
You left out quite a few items from your post. Are you on weekly compensation now or have you returned to work? What is your weekly compensation rate? Do you have ongoing medical biills? Do you face future operations? If you have not returned to work, what kind of work do the doctors say you can still do? Is this an injury to your dominant hand? How's many weeks of compensation have you already received? What is the amount of your weekly compensation? What is your age? Are you looking for a settlement of your case or just to be paid for the 50% loss of your hand?

In over 35 years of practicing Virginia workers' compensation I have learned that when and if to agree on the amount of my client's compensation is a matter that requires great skill and experience. I have a whole section of my book, The Virginia Workers' Compensation Case Finder, dedicated to discussing permanent impairments. Payment of compensation in your claim is something that is technical and will bind you for the remainder of your case. I would be happy to discuss these with you so that you can make an informed and intelligent decision about what to do. I am a member of the Larson's National Workers' Compensation Advisory Board and my practice is statewide. What values and interests do you need in singing?
You need no specific interests, except singing and music. You should like these things. If you don't, you probably won't like your job. You might also be interested in poetry if you're interested in songwriting too. The only value you need is valuing your voice.

Can I refuse to send my daughter to her mother's home if I suspect that her mother's boyfriend is grooming her to molest her?
I have split physical and legal custody (alternate weeks) and my daughter is 10 years old. He started dating her mom 10 months ago and moved in after 2 months.
He tells my daughter that he is her father since he loves her a lot and that she should trust him (he doesn't do that with her brother). He will only play with her brother to make her jealous if she doesn't obey him.
He sleeps right next to her in bed with her mother and brother. He has been snuggling with her on the couch and asking if she is okay with each position that he moves into with her.
He buys her expensive gifts. He calls her throughout each day on an iphone he bought her and tells her he misses her.
I confronted her mother, but she refused to listen. I don't want to send her back to her mom's house. What can I do?
Answer
You can't just unilaterally withhold visitation/custodial time. You need to take this into court on a motion or OSC to change custody.
Answer
You should meet with an experienced family law attorney to discuss if you should seek emergency protective stay away orders in your motion.

A friend and I started a website with the hopes of selling advertising space and sponsored content. After some time, the partnership went sour and my partner decided to 'unofficially' withdraw his involvement, but it was he who founded the LLC under which the website was initially operating under. However, I current own the domain name and built the current website from the ground up. I plan on moving forward operating under a new business entity.
My question is threefold: (1) are there any foreseeable complications that can arise from this situation?; (2) what constitutes ownership of a website, branding, etc.?; and (3) can these problems be avoided even if I was never "officially" a partner? (i.e. partnership agreement)
Thanks!
Answer
These are excellent question and fairly complex.
1) In general there could be foreseeable complications if you do not anchor your separation in a written agreement. For example if you become successful on your own your former partner may want to have a piece of the action, so to speak.
2) ownership is a complex issue. Generally if you owned the domain before you began cooperating with the your former partner then you have a good claim over the domain but your former partner can always claim that you assigned the domain to the LLC. To resolve this and many other issues you need a good separation agreement
3) to be considered a partnership you do not be need to be officially a member of the LLC.
As self serving as it may sound, you need a startup / tech attorney to represent your interests and draft a separation agreement. If you are planning to make money with the site this would be an absolute necessary investment of money and attention on your side.

hello my wife and I have been late on our rent twice. Our rent normally is 595 a month. the late fee after 5 days is 680 a month is that legal? also our land lord is stating that in the contract we must pay 680 for the remainder of our lease do to the fact that we have been late twice is that legal?
Answer
Based on your zip code of 60406, you live in Blue Island. Illinois law has no general rule regarding late fees; everything is based on what your lease says, and without seeing the lease to see if it was properly calculated, it is impossible to confirm the amount is correct per lease. HOWEVER, some communities, such as Chicago, Evanston and Mount Prospect, for example, place limits on late charges. Check with your community to see if there are limits on late charges. Also, under Illinois law if your landlord attempts to give you a statutory 5-day notice then again Illinois law says only "rent" can be included - local laws may allow for more to be included. Best to show your lease and any notice the landlord has given you to an attorney to review.
