Catechism Classes are classes held in person or online to prepareyoung Catholics, or those who are interested in converting, aboutthe teachings of the Catholic Church. Children are required toattend catechism classes as part of their preparation to receivethe Sacrament of First Holy Communion and the Sacrament ofConfirmation.

The catechism is often used to refer to a book containing theofficial teaching on behalf of the Catholic Church and used byCatholics to learn about their faith. There are many differentbooks published including the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2ndEdition, the Baltimore Catechism (which is written in a way to forchildren to understand), the Catechism of the Council of Trent, theCatechism of St. Pius X, and the Compendium to the Catechism of theCatholic Church.
