for looks, most of the old LANCIA range, mainly the fulvia and stratos

4x4: GQ nissan patrol 4.2D ( these just keep on going and never break)

family car: anything made by GM (in australia, the holden commodore)

most major brands like toyota, nissan, honda, suzuki are good, but dont get caught in a crap box like, great wall, or ssangyong or even kia.

also, the earlier hyundai range was absoulute rubbish, but they have improved now
