you mustn't be familiar with the word "publicity." publicity stunts are stunts performed in a public setting, meaning among people of the everyday sort. the "stunt" is designed to grab the people's attention. making one's self known is the goal of a publicity stunt, since if you are on people's minds, they will generally have thoughts pertaining to you and anything you might be doing, say, releasing an album or movie. as the saying goes, "even bad publicity is good publicity," since it matters not what you get the attention from as long as you get the attention. the stunt though will only give the public a taste of what you are offering hopefully instilling a curiosity for more of you within the public, in effect causing them to want to by your album or go to your movie. publicity stunts are pretty much advertisements with the individual actively participating, which is much more noticeable than a billboard or poster.
