I need to be the Guardian of my niece who recently immigrated to US and lives with us . She is 19 and starts going to school this fall.

I need to know if I can do this myself or it only can be done through an attorney

also please give me an average cost . Thank you

Question not clear. 19 is an adult you do not "need" a guardianship, houwever if you insist on one the price is $3000.

Guardianship is the taking over of another's affairs against that person's will. You don't have to use a lawyer, but it's a complicated process, and I would strongly recommend using a lawyer. If you can get the person to voluntarily sign, you can do a power of attorney instead of a guardianship, which doesn't require court.
