Are attorneys required to keep copies of documents they prepare for clients, such as a will?

Question

Are attorneys required to keep copies of documents they prepare for clients, such as a will?

Answer

The attorney may have an unexecuted copy or draft in the attorney's file. However, some lawyers store the client's will for safekeeping and some do not. For example, I don't. Its up to the client to sign and store in a safe place and I keep a draft in my files.
