Question

I live in california and me and my father have physical custody of my sister's four children. We live in separate households and two live with my father and two live with me. We live in the same city and want to know is it okay if we file joint guardianship of the children even though they live in separate households

Answer

A joint guardianship, where both you and your father are the guardians of the minor children would probably be acceptable. However you should note that both of you will be subject to the probate court's examination and evaluation of your appropriateness as guardians. As this can be a somewhat costly process, I recommend that you consult with a probate or family law attorney about this matter.
