What is the best legitimate talent site?
There are several talent sites used on a regular basis by the Hollywood casting, agenting and personal manager communities. NowCasting.com, owned and operated by a group of people who helped start the very first such site in the mid-1990s (CastNet), is a great resource for aspiring actors. It's also most strongly set up for the theatrical side of the business (film, TV) and recently acquired the Academy Players Guide. Gary Marsh, the man who invented the modern "casting breadkowns" hard-copy business, runs ActorsAccesscom. It's part of his larger Breakdown Services and remains the most frequently used tool for agents and managers to receive submissions, search for talent. Finally, LACasting.com, originally started by casting director Beau Bonneau, remains a versatile and trusted tool, mostly for TV commercial purposes.
There is one caveat to using any-all of these services. Unless the registered actor is in Los Angeles, New York or planning to be in the former city during annual TV pilot season, there is little point in signing up. These are very much, all, tools designed for the locally based working actor and serious wannabe.
