What are values that you should have to become a photgrapher?

What are values that you should have to become a photgrapher?
Ah. . . Well, this is a bit of a tough question!

You see, I've played around in the field of photography for a while, taken a few digital arts classes. . . And you have to understand, photography is art. Art is merely an expression - nobody can tell you if your art is good or bad except for you. But a photographer intends to catch moments or scenes or what-have-you on film/digitally.

1. Understand the basics of photography. Lighting, contrast, depth, color, etc, etc.
2. Understand the technology you'll be working with. Which camera is best for this? What should I use to make this lighting look good? There are thousands of lens and camera types. It all comes down to personal preference, though.
3. Understand the programs you'll be working with. If you're going digital, it's normally a good idea to understand the Photoshop programs and those like them.

That would be a core value of being a photographer. Not to mention you need to have pride and confidence in your work! If you don't like your work for what it is, then who will? Passion is another characteristic that's a good trait to have. If you're not doing something that you love, why bother at all?

Not any one photographer is the same, however. What's important is that YOU like and enjoy what you're doing. That's all that matters. Now doing it on a professional level, I would recommend jobshadowing a photographer and asking them a slew of questions. They'll be happy to answer your questions.
