Question

My landlord (based in Illinois where I rent a house from him) sent an email to my employer (based in Missouri)stating that I was several months behind in my rent and that he had started the eviction process. In this email he also stated that he thought the company could help "spur" me on to pay my rent. How legal is this?

Answer

There appear to be several civil actions available against such a landlord. You might even be abler you sue the landlord in the Missouri County where your employer is located. But,you should also confer with an Illinois attorney too. If the party that you rent from is a corporation, and the person used their personal email account to communicate to your employer, they may have violated federal AND state law.

Good luck
