My child's mother has hired an attorney and filed to take away my visitation rights.

I've done nothing to warrant this action. I can't afford an attorney and have been

denies assistance from legal aid. I will have to represent myself. Can I ask or have

someone I trust sit with me to offer advice in court even if they don't have a law degree?

Mother and myself are only 19 we were 17 when we had our child.



Answer

You can get legal advice anywhere you want to. However, most courts won't allow a non-lawyer to "cross the rail" and sit with you at counsel table, or stand with you in front of the Judge during a hearing.
