Ah, the double edged sword!It has improved our lives immeasurably.Our quality of life has improved. Health, education, leisure time (the fact that we have leisure time to ponder such things), the fact that we feed hundreds from farms that would feed only the families that lived there.A flip side might be that we have to feed hundreds because we have fewer farmers to feed more longer living people.We need more health care because we do not die young, and we live long enough to have more health problems that young people do not have!Our "tools" are improving because we are learning how to improve the "tools" we make them with.Leisure time. We have invented things to fill our time because we have had time to invent them because we do not all have to be hunter-gatherers!Such a simple question, with a not so simple answer!There is no clear answer because the basis of an answer is changing.Still, I think we are improving.RichYou need a better answer to this question!Cars;The cars we have today are such an improvement as to be almost an appliance to be almost ignored.A car from the Fifties would last 75000 miles if you were willing to work on it a lotThe sixties were not much better, and if you were in an accident, your chances for survival were not good. Like older cars, they needed to have major work regularly.The seventies improved safety and after 1976, technology, but NOT quality.By the mid eighties we were getting cars that would be reliable, safe, clean and even gave better fuel mileage and last over 200,000 miles with little beyond normal maintenanceThe cars we have today can go anywhere anytime in any weather.They take minimal work with most parts lasting the life of the car.Sure they cost a lot, but ask anyone about the Yugo.I think we are better off with the technology improvements.Rich
