Jon Krakauer is still alive today because he wrote the book Intothe Wild about the tragic death of Christopher McCandless inthe wilds of Alaska. Krakauer interwove stories of his ownexperiences as a young man exploring the wilderness (as well asthose of others) in an attempt to understand the motivations ofMcCandless.
Since the publication and huge success of Into the Wild in1996, Jon Krakauer has written several other books, includingInto Thin Air and Where Men Win Glory.
